Day 34 – August 6th – Cow Head to Norris Point and Woody Point

Day 34 – August 6th – Cow Head to Norris Point and Woody Point

Today’s weather was a little different than what we have enjoyed in the past.  Overcast and rain!!

We left the campground at Cow Head rather late as we could not get into the KOA at Norris Point before 11:00 AM.  We also took our time with the drive (which wasn’t an issue due to the very heavy rains, thunder and lightning) and arrived about 15 minutes early.  The site was still occupied and we had to wait until we could “move in”.

Norris Point - Green Building is Marine Research Station
The rain had almost stopped by the time we completed our set-up and we were off to the Norris Point waterfront to catch the water taxi over to Woody Point.  If you wanted, one could drive to Woody Point (about 76 km each way) or pay $14.00 return and take the 15 minute water taxi ride.  Not a hard decision J.

The ride over on the boat was smooth and by the time we got to Woody Point the sun was out and was quite warm!  We disembarked and along with about half of the boat load headed for the restaurant end of town, about a 5 minute walk.  We ate at the Old Loft Restaurant and had a very nice meal.

After lunch we set out to tour the town, we did a walk about towards the south end and then headed in the opposite direction.  Vance and I got waylaid as we passed Legion Branch 45.  It is the only Branch that I have ever been in that has a back patio overlooking gorgeous saltwater and mountains.  Old building but that was part of the ambiance.

Charlie Payne Playing Us A  Tune
There is a small craft store on the outskirts of town called “Hunky Dory”; to help business, the owner will come into town to pick you up, take you up to his store and then bring you back.  We took him up on his offer and went to the store.  Some very nice things, Joan and Vance purchased some “Screech” Coffee.  WE were also entertained by the owner (Charlie Payne) and his small accordion with a couple of songs.  Charlie drove us back into town and dropped us off.

We then opted for the ice cream parlour across from the ferry dock as it was getting close to ferry time and as it was the last ferry of the day, we did not want to miss it J.

It seems that many of the people we met today were musicians of some sort, including our ferry captain!! He had a CD playing on the way back which Joan and Vance bought that and one of Charlie Payne to listen to while they are driving the hills and dodging the potholes of Newfoundland.

Time to call it another day…
