Day 40 – August 12th – North Sydney to Amherst, NS

Day 40 – August 12th – North Sydney to Amherst, NS

We awoke to partly sunny skies which last the rest of this travel day.  We ran through a couple of brief showers but nothing to slow us down.

As we were travelling towards Amherst today I realized something was missing!! We were not having to dodge potholes or climb steep hills!  But we also miss the lovely scenery of Newfoundland.

Our travels to Amherst though were not without incident.  We stopped for fuel and we were told about a small little restaurant called the Captains Galley that would easily take our trailers.  Well they were mostly right.  We arrived, pulled into the parking lot and discovered it would be somewhat of a challenge to get out.  Lunch was very good and now to navigate out, we walked the parking lot and found a smaller laneway behind the business next door that should do.  Out we go and the lane had a slight hill to it and when we “climbed out” we were quite the sight and provided some entertainment to the locals I am sure.

The rest of the trip to Amherst was much less exciting and we arrived around 3:00 PM.

Following set up we sat down with Joan and Vance and had our last happy hour of the trip together.  We had a great time and said our good bye’s.  They are heading to Edmunston tomorrow and Diane & I are off to Dalhousie.
