Day 13 – July 16th – Twillingate
(Peyton’s Woods) to Holyrood (BlueFin RV Park)
| Twillingate Cove Full of Icebergs |
We left the moans, creaks and gunshot cracks of the Twillingate icebergs
behind this morning and continued our trek eastward towards St. John’s. The roads for the most part were good. However, one should note that the TransCanada
Hwy. east of Gander have some construction spots going on. They are replacing the culverts about every ¼
mile for about 6 miles. The culvert has
been installed but the roadway over the culvert is loose gravel. These gravel sections are just waiting to
collect the unwary traveller in his RV to rearrange the inside of one’s 5th
wheel. When the speed limit says 50 KPH
to 30 or less!! Of course while
travelling over these spots we were the slowest vehicles, but the trucks and
trailers survived very well.
The last time we were here we don’t remember so many hills as there were
this time, hmmm maybe just recent installations. The weather was good for driving, not too hot
and overcast so we weren’t squinting all of the time. We ran into some pretty dense fog as we got
closer to our destination, nothing that made you slow down any but enough to
let you know it was there. This is one
of the few places we have ever been that fog is accompanied by high winds. We are used to fog being associated with
little or no winds. Just another part of
the NL adventure!
| A typical morning at the BluFin RV Park |
We arrived at the BlueFin RV Park despite the GPS’s in both trucks not
really knowing where this place was!
Thank you for those low tech signs on the side of the road. We are backed in overlooking a small pond,
all settled in for a week.
