Day 17 – July 20th – La Manche Provincial Park and Village, Bay Bulls

Another day of awakening to sunshine!!

Miniature Fishing Village
Today was a small hike day to see an old French Village site within La Manche Provincial Park.  It was about a 40 km drive from where we are camped. During our drive to the park we came across a small pond that held model boats.  It was a picturesque spot in miniature complete with a small fishing village.

Joan and Vance decided they were going to Bay Bulls to see if they could go out on a boat tour to see the Puffins.

The Miniature Fleet!!
For Diane and I, we descended into the La Manche Provincial Park down what seemed to be about a 10% grade.  I am sure I did not want to bring the Ti with us and definitely not have to bring it out.  It was an excellent paved road, but still….

When we got to the bottom we discovered a very nice large park with large trailers and fifth wheels all over.  Obviously that hill did not seem to bother them.

Natural Harbour
We parked the truck and walked about 5.1 kms round trip through a varied forest of evergreens and tamaracks.  We arrived at a very nice view of the ocean and the remains of the old French village.  Unfortunately the suspension bridge that we really wanted to cross was under repairs and was closed.  We did some exploring around the immediate area and headed back to the truck. There was a crew repairing the bridge, they had packed everything in from wood to concrete.  They were staying on sight in tents while they're work was being completed.

Meanwhile, Vance and Joan weren’t as lucky, they wanted to do the first boat cruise of the day so they left the park just after 8 AM to make the 9:30 AM boat tour only to find that they did not do an early morning cruise on Sunday and all the other ones were booked up for the day.  They returned to the park a little disappointed.  Vance did some mucking about with the trailer for most of the day and then was able to relax for the evening.

Diane and I stopped to eat at the Sailor’s Galley in Bay Bulls.  Diane had the pan fried cod and Greek salad.  She said it was the best cod she has had on this trip so far.  We then returned to the park in an effort to assist Joan and Vance in their relaxing – Happy Hour!!

Looking forward to someone getting Screeched tomorrow!! :)
